The energy and enthusiasm for learning demonstrated by students at David G. Burnet, James W. Fannin, and Esperanza “Hope” Medrano elementary schools; and Sequoyah and H.S. Thompson learning centers; and Jill Stone Elementary School at Vickery Meadow was recognized by the Tzu Chi Foundation with a gift of more than 1,600 packages of uniforms and school supplies. Book giveaway promotes reading and literacy

Members of the Dallas Retired Teachers Association visited students at Birdie Alexander Elementary School and César Chávez Learning Center and gave each student a new, age-appropriate book. More than 1,300 books were donated to students during the organization’s visits, which were to promote the importance of reading and literacy. About 1,500 books are given away each year in this annual project of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and the Dallas Retired Teachers Association.
