    To the current BTWHSPVA generation:

You are a creative revolutionary. Through your commitment, intellect, artistry, and curiosity, you have the power to change this world! Embrace your status as we enter the 2015-2016 school year!

I want each of you to celebrate our theme this year:

The Dawning of a New Age of HARMONY AND UNDERSTANDING.

This comes directly from our All-School musical, Hair. We are excited about exploring the artistic and societal issues surrounding the late 1960s. Each of you can play a part in understanding the context and celebrating what is truly an ALL SCHOOL event!

As we approach our 40th anniversary of our existence as ARTS MAGNET next year, the faculty and staff have spent a great deal of time focusing on our climate and culture. There are two new expectations for the year that I wanted to share with you:

    1. Student IDs: We celebrate your individualism each and every day at BTW. However, we live in a day and age where it is important for you to wear your IDs while on campus. I know this is a shift in what we’ve done in the past, but campus safety is our first priority. We’ll explain this further during student assemblies next week.
    2. Academic Integrity Pledge: Each student and parent was asked to sign an academic integrity pledge during the registration process. We are committed to cultivating a culture of honesty where all students are celebrated for doing their own work. As creative revolutionaries, we should take pride in submitting work that is our own and not borrowing from someone else!

Maintaining an open dialogue and a caring environment are paramount to moving our school forward. We are committed to our school’s vision:

To be the premier performing, visual arts, and academic high school in the United States and to serve as a national model for excellence in teaching, learning, and professional experiences.

Take advantage of the opportunities you are given – but don’t take them for granted. You’ve worked hard to get to BTWHSPVA, and I want you to tackle every subject with tenacity and a constant spirit of intellectual and artistic curiosity.

We are on a journey from EXCELLENCE TO EMINENCE. While all of our planning and teaching strategies are geared towards this goal, it is ultimately YOUR performance that will enable you to be successful at BTWHSPVA. I look forward to supporting you at each step of the way.

As your principal, please know I am here for you. Share your stories, dreams, and aspirations. Our entire school community is behind you – make this the best year yet!

    Sincerely,

    Scott M. Rudes, Ph.D

    Principal
