Frequently Asked Questions
What is the estimated turn-around time?
Production time varies from job to job it is important to know that some jobs take longer than others. Our department goal is to produce job orders within 5-7 business days. If the job requires district distribution or has to be sent out to a vendor we require the minimum of 10 business days. PLEASE NOTE: Production time begins only after we have received approved artwork.
How do I enter a requisition?
Requisitions are entered through Oracle via iProcurement. In iProcurement look for The Graphics Department online store, (same process as ordering office supplies). In the search item box you may only type business cards, envelopes, letter head, or maps, for all other printed matter please type "printing". In the quantity field you will have to enter the dollar amount from your estimate then upload the estimate you received from The Graphics Department. For faster processing or rush jobs please get your supervisor's approval as soon as possible and email the approved requisition number to firstname.lastname@example.org (Line code:6294)
How do your graphic design services work?
We have a team of professional designers that are tasked with creating your design piece. There is a fee for desk top publishing/design of any artwork that has to be created or edited by the graphics department. Design services add 1-2 business days to your estimated turn-around time. We recommend you supply all text for your production in a standard word document and if photos will be included only supply large high quality photos. If you choose to create your own artwork you can use photos from the District’s Flickr account to ensure you are using high quality photos. Will I get to see my design before you print?
Yes. All jobs go through a proofing stage. Proofing is an industry term used to refer to the approval status of the content or artwork. It is the responsibility of the customer to proofread the content before approving and sending into production. It is recommended that you send the proof to the assigned project committee to gather everyone's input before requesting revisions or approving artwork. Print Production will not proceed without approval of artwork.
I am being asked to supply an original or native file of my logo, What does that mean?
Using a logo can be a bit tricky at times if you do not have the original file in .ai or .eps format .jpgs are often very low quality, and therefore cannot be used on large posters or banners. In addition to that, we are unable to edit the file which means it will have a square white background behind it and will force you to use white as a background color all the time. Contact the original designer of your logo to request the original Illustrator or Photoshop file. The most common file types are .ai and/or .eps files. Save your original logo on a flash drive so that it is accessible to you, your staff, and your business for future years to come.
We offer services to re-create or re-design your logo if you do not own a high resolution editable version of your logo. If you are interested in logo design or logo recreation services please contact Jalaine Frazier- email@example.com for an estimate.
