Free & Reduced Price Meals
Children Need Healthy Meals to Learn
The Dallas ISD Food & Child Nutrition Services Department offers healthy meals, every school day. The cost of Breakfast is $1.25; the cost of lunch is $1.75; and there is no cost for After School Snacks. Families may qualify for Free or and Reduced-Price benefits. The cost for a reduced-price breakfast is $.30 and the cost of a reduced-price lunch is $.40.
To apply for free or reduced-priced benefits, a new meal application must be submitted each school year. Family Applications for Meal Benefits are distributed to all students at the beginning of each school year. Households must complete the application form, and return it to the school. Only one application per household (listing all children) is required. You may also obtain an application at the school or by calling Food and Child Nutrition Services (FCNS) at (214) 932-5500.
Who may qualify for Free or Reduced-Price Meal Benefits?
Children in households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits (SNAP--formerly Food Stamps) or TANF may be eligible to receive free meals regardless of household income. Also, if your household income is falls within Federal Income Chart limits, your children may be eligible to receive free or reduced-price meal benefits. Foster-Care children may also qualify for Free or Reduced-Price Meal benefits. Call FCNS at (214) 932-5500, if there are any questions.
Will my meal application information be verified?
Eligibility may be checked at any time, during the school year. Some households may be randomly selected to verify information submitted on the household Family Application for Meal Benefits. You may be asked to send written evidence of income eligibility.
Do I need to fill out an application for each child?
Should I fill out an application, if I received a "Letter of Predetermined Eligibility" for this school year stating my children are approved for Free or Reduced-Price Meals?
If I do not qualify at this time, may I apply again, later?
Yes. You may re-apply at any time during the school year, if your household size increases, or if the household income decreases, or if the household starts receiving SNAP or TANF benefits. If you become unemployed, your children mayalso be able to receive free or reduced-price meals.
