 |
Representing District 7, Jerome Garza was elected to the Board of Trustees in May 2004. Mr. Garza continues a family tradition of public service established by his father, Trini Garza, who in 1969 became the first Hispanic to serve on the Dallas Independent School District Board of Education.
Garza began his education in the Dallas ISD, attending Winnetka and Stevens Park elementary schools and W.E. Greiner Middle School. Continuing his education, he attended high school at St. Mark’s School of Texas and college at Southern Methodist University, majoring in business administration and finance. He began his public service at SMU, at which he was recognized in “Who’s Who” in America Colleges and Universities and was awarded the prestigious “M” award of SMU. He also served as a Congressional intern to U.S. Congressman Edward Roybal of California. While in Washington, D.C., Garza worked with a team of interns who created the database for what is known today as the National Association of Latino Elected Officials.
Today, Garza is a vice president of Regions Bank, serving as a branch manager and Small Business Specialist. He is married to Paula Garza and has three boys: Trini, Travis, and Taylor.
