Your Bond Dollars at Work

Building Dallas' Future

As three new schools (Larry Smith Elementary School and two middle schools, Hector P. Garcia and Harold Wendell Lang Sr.) opened in the fall of 2007, the $1.37 billion Dallas ISD bond program is nearing completion. The public is welcome to attend the dedications scheduled to celebrate the new schools.

The Food and Child Nutrition Services Department of the district will soon have a new home. Work continues on the department's Maria Luna Food Service Facility, which will house administrative offices as well as training kitchens and warehouse space. Completion is expected as the calendar turns to 2008.

Another major project well underway matches the charm of a historic building coupled with all new classrooms and performing spaces. Students and teachers of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts plan to move into their new building toward the end of the spring semester.

In addition, renovations are in progress on a final group of schools across the city. The last new school of the bond program, Francisco Pancho Medrano Middle School, broke ground in May 2007 and will open when school starts in August of 2008.
