The addition to North Dallas High School was a stand-alone building of 31,500 square feet, including 20 core classrooms, an administration office, a teacher's lounge, a bookroom, storage rooms, a janitor's closet, restrooms for students and staff, mechanical/electrical rooms, and circulation areas.
Significant renovations also were made to the school. These included Americans with Disabilities Act work such as new ramps and handrails, accessible drinking fountains, and upgraded bathrooms. Major architectural renovations included conversion of existing room(s) to main and intermediate distribution frame (MDF/IDF) room(s) and expansion of the existing cafeteria.
Mechanical upgrades included improving the existing heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems by: replacing certain existing equipment; providing necessary piping for replaced equipment; updating the air conditioning system in boys and girls gymnasiums; refurbishing the heating and air-conditioning systems in the kitchen and dining room; and installing stand-alone air conditioning systems for computer and MDF/IDF rooms.
New fire alarm and suppression systems also were installed throughout the facility and electrical service upgrades were provided to support the planned renovation. Finally, the existing technology infrastructure was upgraded per Dallas ISD Technology Specifications, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission's E-RATE program, which assists U.S. schools and libraries in obtaining affordable telecommunications and Internet access.
