K.B. Polk Center for Academically Talented and Gifted's new addition and renovations were officially unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 6, 2005. The school's new wing features 16 classrooms, four Pre-K classrooms and two renovated classrooms. The rest of the addition is comprised of a new library/media center, an assistant principal/clerk office, book storage room, technology/main distribution frame room, new restrooms, mechanical/electrical rooms, and circulation areas.
Renovation work was also undertaken at the school, including a new fire suppression system, extensive electrical system upgrades, technology infrastructure upgrades, new heating and air conditioning systems, interior modifications, and accessibility improvements. A new teacher parking lot and a student drop-off drive were also created.
The addition created a new front entrance and the school's administrative area was relocated to a new area east of the old building entrance. The improvements to the school enabled the removal of all but one of the portable classrooms located in the school grounds, freeing outdoor space and improving the school's appearance.
