Alex W. Spence Middle School received renovations to 100,900 square feet of building area. The improvements included: roofing replacement; Americans with Disabilities Act work; fire alarm system upgrades; a new fire suppression system; and upgrades to technology infrastructure and air conditioning system. The school also received an addition of 30,449 square feet. Combined with the conversion of the existing gymnasiums, the addition contains 19 new classrooms, bookrooms, teacher workrooms, needed administrative and custodial support spaces, student and staff restrooms, a new competition gymnasium that can be divided by movable partitions into two practice gyms, and new locker rooms.
