A 49,245 square-foot addition and many renovations to Sunset High School were completed in the summer of 2005 and officially unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 19, 2006.
The addition includes 20 core classrooms, four art classrooms, restrooms for students and staff, mechanical/electrical rooms, and circulation areas. In addition, several new rooms have been added for arts and music education, including: a kiln room and two art teacher offices; a band hall and four individual instrumental practice rooms; space for both instrument and uniform storage; an instrumental music teacher's office; a dance studio and dance faculty office; and a drama classroom and drama teacher office.
The school also received a number of renovations, such as: a new fire suppression system; upgrades to the electrical system, technology infrastructure, and heating and air conditioning systems; roof upgrades; and accessibility improvements. All of the improvements eliminated the need for portable classrooms, ultimately making more parking available at the school.
