Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, located in the Arts District near central Dallas, is scheduled to receive renovations and remodeling to the entire original structure, which is a historical landmark. Built in 1922, the high school's historic structure will remain in place and receive historically sensitive renovations. The school also will receive an addition of about 168,000 square feet, creating 45 new teaching spaces, including classrooms and laboratories. The addition also will include an auditorium, a dining area, a kitchen, a media center, a black box, and other support and ancillary spaces.
In keeping with the school's impressive reputation for outstanding music education, a new auditorium equipped for professional caliber performances also will be added.
