Historically sensitive renovations were conducted on Phillis Wheatley Elementary School, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Exterior improvements included minor masonry renovation and restoration, exterior caulking, and repairs to the brick façade, windows, and roof. Upgrades within the school included: critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing renovations to chiller, boiler, and heating and air conditioning systems; upgrades to the electrical system, technology infrastructure, and fire alarm and suppression systems; and ceiling and lighting modifications. In addition, Texas Accessibility Standards work was conducted on ramps and restrooms, an elevator was installed, and an existing storage room was converted into a classroom.
