Naming of New Schools and Facilities

The deadline for submitting recommendations for names of facilities and portions of facilities— including names for the 15 new schools to be built under the 2008 bond program—is March 31.
The Board of Trustees will vote on the names at its June 25 meeting.

Anyone can submit recommendations on a district form that can be accessed through the district’s online policy manual.

In general, facilities and portions of facilities can be named for:

• Persons who have attained prominence locally or nationally based on contributions to the public in recognized fields;
• Early pioneers of Dallas or the state of Texas or presidents of the United States;
• Distinctive geographical locations;
• An individual or group that makes a major capital donation of land for the facility or a significant monetary donation for construction costs.

A facility or portion of a facility cannot be named for an individual unless he or she is at least 70 years old or has been deceased for at least 18 months or the naming is a condition of a gift or grant.
