Dallas ISD Seeks Input for Campus Turnaround Plans
Dallas ISD is proud of our award-winning schools, outstanding teachers and staff, hard-working students and committed parents and volunteers. Our district serves approximately 160,000 students in grades pre-kindergarten through the 12, in 227 schools, and we employ nearly 20,000 dedicated professionals.
Dallas ISD strives to prepare every student for success by implementing curriculum and instruction designed to ensure that our campuses and classrooms meet the needs of a diverse student population. In the effort to improve student success, our district is committed to making ongoing updates to our instructional programs. The turnaround plan is one such effort.
What is a turnaround plan and which campuses are affected?
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has identified 4 Dallas ISD schools as “turnaround campuses.” Based on student achievement levels below what our district considers acceptable, TEA has rated these schools “Improvement Required” or - IR schools - for two or more consecutive school years. Beginning in 2016, according to TEA mandates, the district leadership and the administrators of each of these campuses are required to create a turnaround plan listing the actions that must take place to improve student achievement.
The following list identifies the 4 Dallas ISD turnaround campuses and the number of years they have been designated Improvement Required.
|Paul L. Dunbar Elementary||Improvement Required Year Two|
|George W. Truett Elementary||Improvement Required Year Two|
|Daniel Webster Elementary||Improvement Required Year Two|
|Harold W. Lang Middle School||Improvement Required Year Two|
Your input is needed to improve these campuses.
Parents, staff and community members are encouraged to provide suggestions and recommend what they feel should be included in each campus turnaround plan. Areas where suggestions are welcome include the following: discipline and classroom management concerns, specific school programs and practices that need improvement, possible solutions to problems and ideas for overall campus improvement.
How can you provide input?
You are invited to share your ideas for improvement in one of the following ways:
Dallas ISD will soon host a Turnaround Plan community meeting for parents, staff and community members to provide input and learn more about the district and campus improvement plans. Meeting dates will be posted on this site as they are scheduled.
