In keeping with tradition, kindergarten students will attend classes from 8:15 a.m. until 12 noon during the week of August 22-26, 2011. This will allow kindergarten teachers time to process enrollment forms and meet with students' families during the afternoon. It also provides students with a transitional period to adjust to elementary school.
All prekindergarten classes will start on Monday, August 29, 2011 and follow the regular full-day class schedule. The later beginning date for prekindergarten provides additional time for schools to determine which children qualify for services, administer the screening assessment, and prioritize applications to ensure that eligible students are enrolled in classes. As you know, our district has the responsibility of serving eligible children based on the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency. Students will have the opportunity to receive breakfast in their classroom this fall thanks to a program funded by the Walmart Foundation to expand free breakfasts to all students. Approximately 40 Dallas ISD schools have confirmed they will participate in the program that provides students with nutritious breakfast items they can eat together at their desks prior to starting their lessons for the day.
Immigrant and refugee students new to the country will register at their neighborhood school. To find out what school cor responds to the address where the student resides, visit http://www.dallasisd.org//site/Default.aspx?PageID=92.
The Dallas ISD and all schools use an automated phone message system to communicate with parents and staff about important news. Schools use the system to alert parents to school events, student absences, and other important information. To ensure that they do not miss any announcements from the schools or the district, parents should make sure that their children’s records include current contact information like phone number and address.
