Local Assessment

Aaron Ware, Director

Benchmarking reflects performance levels in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies and provides instructional support for student mastery of the TAKS. The major responsibilities of Local Assessment are to monitor and improve student learning by assessing and adjusting instruction throughout the school year, and to monitor and assure the consistent and complete teaching of the Dallas ISD curriculum across all schools. Local assessments also include Dial 3, ACPs, Algebra Prognosis, and Credit by Exam.

Local Assessment supervises the creation of valid and reliable assessments of the curriculum to serve as benchmark and end-of-course tests. The benchmark tests are used in grades K-12 as a formative assessment to monitor students’ ongoing mastery of the curriculum. The Assessment of Course Performance (ACP) tests are used each semester in grades 7-12 as part of the students’ summative evaluation. Data from the tests are summarized and presented to district and campus administrators and to individual teachers who use the information to make instructional decisions.

Program Evaluation

Nancy Kihneman, Interim Director

Program Evaluation provides evaluation services for all districtwide core academic and ancillary programs that support local and statewide educational initiatives. These programs include Title I, Magnets Schools, Learning Centers, Dual Language/ESL and AAS.
