Introduction to Recordkeeping

– Grades 7-8
This course develops understanding of and skill in maintaining accurate records; includes skills used in everyday business activities both for personal and professional use; provides opportunity to develop skills related to personal financial management as well as budgeting, financial planning, cashier’s records, handling of money, and tasks common to simple office practices.

Introduction to Business Support Systems
– Grades 7-8
This course introduces practical business procedures; develops foundation for competent business participation and self-sufficiency in today’s world; develops flexibility and adaptability for the rapidly-changing business environment and other skills necessary for success in the workplace; reinforces reading, writing, and calculating skills; and develops effective communications and information management using emerging technology including telecommunications.

Business Venture
– Grades 7-8
This course provides an opportunity to operate a small group or
class-based business for offering a service or product needed in their community; teaches basic entrepreneurial concepts, and fundamental business operating principles; and accomplishes the objectives by working in teams and collaboratively.

Introduction to Keyboarding
– Grades 7-8
This course develops psychomotor ability to operate the keyboard by touch with initial development of acceptable speed and accuracy levels;
introduces  a minimal amount of formatting; develops keyboarding speed and accuracy with  correct technique.

Accounting I
– Grades: 10-12; Credits: 1
This course introduces accounting concepts, principles, and procedures; it emphasizes the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for individuals to conduct personal business or to further their education in the field of accounting. (Tech Prep program)

Accounting II
– Grades 11-12; Credits 1
Prerequisite: Accounting I
This enrichment course provides an opportunity to further develop the fundamental accounting principles with extensive use of technology; develop additional skills in applying principles used in accounting systems and methods commonly found in business. Accounting II is designed for students interested in continuing their education at the post secondary level or entering the workforce. (High school dual credit awarded for successful completion of college courses ACCT 1301 and 1302)

Administrative Procedures
– Grades 11-12; Credits: 1-2
Prerequisite: Keyboarding or Equivalent
This course provides an advanced and in-depth study of concepts and skills in various systems and administrative procedures that enable a worker to manage or function in the workplace; enhances technology skills and oral/written language skills relating to effective communications; emphasizes planning/organizing work, establishing priorities, records and information management. (Tech Prep program)

Banking and Financial Systems
– Grades 11-12; Credits: 1/2
This course introduces banking and financial concepts, principles and procedures; emphasizes the role of money in the modern economy; recognizes the economic theories and financial forces that influence international business; and compares consumer financial transactions with government transactions. (Tech Prep)

Business Communications
– Grades 10-12; Credits: 1/2 - 1
Prerequisite: Keyboarding or Equivalent
This course develops reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills for effective communication in business situations; develops the ability to send and receive clear and complete oral, written, and electronic messages; emphasizes mechanics of word usage, organization of ideas, and composition of various types of messages; and includes experiences in listening and responding.

Business Computer Information Systems I
– Grades 9-10; Credits: 1
Prerequisite: Keyboarding or Teacher Permission
This course develops technology skills with applications to personal or business situations focusing on word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems, and emerging technologies; and develops intermediate-level skills. (IC3 Certification; Tech Prep; Approved for technology credit)

Business Computer Information Systems II
– Grades 10-12; Credits: 1
Prerequisite: BCIS I
This course provides advanced technology skills required in the business environment; includes workplace technology standards in applications  of word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems, and
emerging technologies; and develops advanced level skills. (MOS Certification;
Tech Prep; Approved for technology credit)

Business Education Independent Study
– Grades 12; Credit 1/2 - 1

Prerequisite: Two business courses including Keyboarding or Equivalent
This course is a project-based learning experience developed by a student or group of students, teacher, and an interdisciplinary mentor team. The project provides opportunities for an in-depth study of at least one aspect of the business area. The student or group demonstrates the ability to utilize a variety of resources, advanced technology, and communication skills in the development and presentation of the project. This activity meets one of the Distinguished Achievement Program measures.

Business Law
– Grades 11-12; Credits: 1/2
Prerequisites: BCIS I recommended
This course provides insight into the laws that govern business in our society; develops an understanding of how organization and operation of the legal system impact business; includes contractual responsibility, protection of individual rights relative to warranties, product liability, secured/unsecured debts, negotiable instruments, employer-employee relations, property ownership and transfer, landlord/tenant, wills/estates, community property, social security, and taxation.

Business Management
– Grades 10-12; Credits: 1/2
This course introduces basic management concepts and leadership styles; explores managerial functions, economic and social components of productivity, international business, and human relations; helps students understand the changing nature of the business environment; examines concepts  of business integrity; and develops and implements a business plan.

Business Ownership
– Grades 10-12; Credits: 1/2
This course provides the prospective entrepreneur a theoretical base as well as practical and proven techniques for planning, organizing, and operating a business; includes planning and strategy concepts, financial and organizational considerations, market analysis and customer development, operations management, accounting and financial controls.

Business Image Management and Multimedia
– Grades 10-12; Credits: 1
Prerequisite: Keyboarding or Equivalent
This course develops proficiencies in designing, importing, and manipulating advanced text, graphics, audio, and video used in presentation management, multimedia productions, publishing systems, and emerging technologies. (Approved for Technology credit)

Business Support Systems
– Grades 10 - 12; Credits: 1/2 - 1
Prerequisite: Keyboarding or Equivalent

International Business

This course introduces concepts of the global market and economy
and international trade; examines operations in a global market; provides an opportunity  to study cultural differences and effects of differences on managerial practices and  international law; the impact of international trade on the domestic and global economy; and examines planning, organizational structure, finance, marketing, and  foreign governmental practices.

Introduction to Business

This course introduces the role of business in the lives of individuals, consumers, workers, and citizens; explores technology in the business setting; develops awareness of entrepreneurial and job market opportunities; explores characteristics of businesses; and assists in developing a career plan.

Keyboarding
– Grades 9-12; Credits: 1/2 - 1
This course develops psychomotor skill in operating the keyboard as well as achieving acceptable speed and accuracy levels; emphasizes mastery of touch control of keyboard characters; includes composition at the keyboard, proofreading, and production of basic documents, both personal and business.  (Tech Prep program)

Recordkeeping
– Grades 9-12; Credits: 1/2 - 1
This course develops understanding of and skill in maintaining accurate records; includes skills used in everyday business activities both for personal and professional use; provides an opportunity to develop skills related to personal financial management as well as budgeting, financial planning, cashier’s records, handling of money, and tasks common to simple office procedures.

Telecommunications and Networking
– Grades 10-12; Credits: 1
Prerequisites: BCIS I recommended
This course provides a basic introduction to the development and impact of telecommunications, and the operational and technical aspects of network and telecommunications systems; explores the various types and uses of networks and on-line services; develops skills in accessing, navigating, and applying on-line services; and develops skills in creating, editing, and installing web  pages. (Tech Prep. Approved for Technology credit)

Business Education Career Preparation I, II
– Grades 11-12; Credits: 3
Prerequisite: Keyboarding or BCIS
These courses combine classroom technical instruction  and supervised on-the-job training for students preparing to enter an office occupation. One period of classroom instruction and three hours of on-the-job training required per day. (Tech Prep, P.E. Waiver)
