Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools

 

The mission of the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools/HIV and AIDS Education is to enhance the educational process by implementing prevention and early intervention strategies that enable students to graduate and become productive and responsible citizens.

The Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools offers training in drug and violence prevention for staff, students, and parents. HIV and AIDS Education provides training and assistance to teachers in the area of Human Growth, Development and Sexuality. The HGDS curriculum focuses on skill building for students. A specialist can also present a parent program to encourage open communication between parent and child regarding issues related to puberty and sexuality. Programs offered by SDFS/HIV and AIDS Education are centered on the 40 Developmental Assets, which provide knowledge in building positives relationships to produce healthy youth, safe schools and productive communities.
