State/National AssessmentsEvelyn Reed, Director State and National Assessments coordinates the administration of national and state-mandated assessments as required by District Policy and TEA. This group is responsible for Districtwide training and materials distribution for tests used to assess student progress. State mandated tests include the TAKS, TELPAS, TAKS-M, TAKS-A, TAKS-Alt, and TPRI/Tejas LEE, etc. National norm-referenced achievement tests include ITBS/ITED/Logramos and Stanford 10. and WLMS, a language proficiency test for limited English speakers. Local AssessmentAaron Ware, Director Benchmarking reflects performance levels in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies and provides instructional support for student mastery of the TAKS. The major responsibilities of the Local Assessment group are to monitor and improve student learning by assessing and adjusting instruction throughout the school year, and to monitor and assure the consistent and complete teaching of the Dallas ISD curriculum across all schools. Local assessments also include Dial 3, ACPs, Algebra Prognosis, and Credit by Exam. The Local Assessment group supervises the creation of valid and reliable assessments of the curriculum to serve as benchmark and end-of-course tests. The benchmark tests are used in grades K-12 as a formative assessment to monitor students’ ongoing mastery of the curriculum. The Assessment of Course Performance (ACP) tests are used each semester in grades 7-12 as part of the students’ summative evaluation. Data from the tests are summarized and presented to district and campus administrators and to individual teachers who use the information to make instructional decisions. Assessment SupportDavid Vines, Director The Assessment Support Group provides computer and data services to Assessment and to various departments throughout the District. This group provides data collection services that include designing, printing, scanning, and analyzing surveys that are sent to District employees, students, and parents. They are responsible for scanning and scoring of all ITBS/Logramos/ITED exams given to students in grades K-2, 6, 9. They also scan and process test instruments used to assess Limited English Proficiency for determining eligibility for many of the District’s educational programs. Additionally, they perform scanning and scoring of the District’s Assessment of Course Performance tests used as final exams in the high schools and middle schools. Accountability Performance ReportingBret T. Phillips, Director Reports performance status of State and Federal Accountability systems to school and central staff, Board of Trustees, and community. Reports other compliance requirements from local policies, state mandates, and federal laws as it deals with student accountability. |
