Extended Day & YearSummer SchoolDallas ISD’s extended-year educational program (summer school) is designed to extend traditional and bilingual instruction with the purpose of ensuring academic success for students, particularly in reading, writing, and mathematics at the elementary level, and at the core instructional areas of the secondary level. Courses are offered in both academics and enrichment at selected facilities throughout the district. Only students who have been retained in the prior school year may attend the academic programming; however, any student may participate in the enrichment programs on a first come first served basis. 21st Century After SchoolThe Texas 21st Century Grants currently offer about 12,000 students in 55 schools a broad array of activities designed to support regular school day instruction and enrich school and home learning climates. Each center is also required to offer literacy or related instruction to student family members. Evaluator activities focus on substantive quarterly reporting to the Texas Education Agency as well as providing evidence-based data to program managers to aide decision-making. Research-driven parent involvement studies are currently underway to assess the effectiveness of education sessions delivered to increase parent awareness of a parent’s role as teacher in the home environment. |
