Why School-based Mentoring?

How Are the Students Selected?

Ninth grade students are identified by their principal, counselor or teacher based on their at-risk characteristics. These characteristics include credit deficiency (most have 1 of the required 6), overage, TAAS scores, and poor attendance.

Once the students are identified and informed of the program and its benefits, they will decide whether they want to be mentored. No student is required to participate. A willingness to be mentored is key to a successful relationship.
