How Do I Become a Mentor?

Volunteers are asked to complete a BBBS application, provide 3 references and submit $15 for a national criminal records check. Payment plans also can be set up for anyone who needs assistance.

BBBS will schedule an interview with the volunteer at their business office or home, whichever is more convenient. The purpose of the interview is to learn more about the volunteer and then use the information to make the best match with a student.

Volunteers also are asked to attend a one and a half hour training session. The training will provide hints for successful mentoring, describe the mentoring life cycle, discuss possible scenarios and review the program's policies and procedures.

If volunteers sign-up for the "School Plus" program, an at home visit and a brief interview with the significant other living with them must be conducted.
