Core Belief
We believe that engaged parents and guardians impact a student’s academic and personal development.
Goal
The goal of the Parent Services and School Choice Department (PSSC) is to increase parental and community awareness, equitable access, knowledge, involvement, and accountability.
Research indicates that students whose parents and guardians are involved in their education achieve higher grades, test scores and graduation rates; have better school attendance, increased motivation, better self-esteem, lower rates of suspension and truancy, decreased use of drugs and alcohol, and fewer instances of violent behavior and are move inclined to pursue higher education. (National PTA)
It is with the goal in mind of graduating students ready for college and the work force and having more parents and guardians involved in their children’s education that the Parent Services and School Choice (PSSC) Department exists.
Major Activities of the PSSC Department:
- Create welcoming campus environments
- Designate and deliver district level support of parental engagement strategies and programs on campuses
- Provide parent education on effective strategies to support student academic success and high school graduation
- Provide middle and high school parents and families with opportunities to choose their child’s school at critical transition points
- Share data on student and school performance
- Streamline the student transfer process
