Frequently Asked Questions

 

  • Can I receive staff development credit for sessions that I take outside of DISD?
    A limited number of sessions that are taken outside the district can be credited toward the mandatory content training hours. However, prior approval must be obtained from the content director in order for credit to be awarded.
  • When can I begin to take classes that will count for 2008-2009?
    Summer classes will begin on June 16, 2008.
  • I have lost my certificate. How can I get a new one or make sure that I have credit for the class?
    Please logon to Oracle Employee Self-Service and check your Training History, which can be printed if desired. Additionally, each staff member will receive an official transcript at the end of the first and second semesters that will serve as documentation of training received.
  • Do college courses count toward the mandatory content training hours?
    At the present time only the courses listed in the district catalog will count toward the mandatory hours.
  • Can I receive staff development credit for attending a conference?
    Conferences that are eligible for staff development credit will be listed in the district catalog.
  • What should I do if my staff development hours are not reported correctly?
    Complete a Request for Review of Staff Development Attendance Form and fax it to the staff development office. Forms can be downloaded from Professional Development and Staff Training web page.
  • What is the starting time for staff development sessions?
    Most sessions will begin at 8:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM. Participants who arrive late (16 minutes or more) will be required to attend another session.
  • If I leave before a session is completed, can I get partial credit?
    No partial credit will be given for incomplete sessions.
  • How do I know what I am required to take this year?
    Each staff member will receive a copy of the requirements for 2008-2009. The requirements are also listed in the front of the summer catalog and on the district web page.
  • If I receive a stipend for a course, may I still use the hours toward my "comp" time?
    No, participants must choose either stipend or credit. Compensatory time and stipends cannot be awarded for the same course
  • What should I do if there are no courses listed in the catalog for my content area?
    Contact your content director.
  • What happens if I do not complete my required staff development hours?
    Pay adjustments will be made if staff development hours are not completed. In addition, failure to complete the mandatory staff development hours may be reflected on the Professional Development and Appraisal System.
