More than 17,000 Dallas ISD employees kicked off the 2008-2009 school year, which begins Aug. 25, with a celebration of past accomplishments and a discussion of future goals.
The Believe/Achieve Back-To-School Kickoff presented by Merrill Lynch, which took place at American Airlines Center, included presentations by Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa, Board of Trustees President Jack Lowe, and Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, as well as recorded messages from former Dallas ISD students who are now leaders in the community.
Hinojosa congratulated employees for their efforts over the past year, which led to the Dallas ISD having 103 exemplary and recognized schools and higher TAKS scores, and charged them with leading students to greater levels of achievement during the 2008-2009 school year.
Students from several Dallas ISD schools performed during the event and Charles Rice Learning Center fifth-grader Dalton Sherman delivered a moving keynote speech to close the event. |
