Supplemental Educational Services (SES)

Free Tutoring

The Dallas Independent School District is committed to working with you and your child to ensure academic success.

Your child may be eligible to receive FREE tutoring in mathematics, reading, English, and language arts through the Dallas ISD’s Project Opportunity! program.

Why take advantage of this opportunity

The Dallas Independent School District offers supplemental educational services to students in our district who attend a school that has missed Adequate Yearly Progress and are in Stages 2-4 of the School Improvement Program.

Taking advantage of this opportunity will give your child the individualized assistance he or she may need to excel and will demonstrate the importance you place on education.

Free tutorial services are provided throughout the school year through before- and after-school and Saturday programs and during summer school. Project Opportunity! allows you and your child to select tutorial services from a list of state-approved educational providers.

Parents must sign up for these free services:

  1. Complete the application. Applications are available at each school and at this website (see link below).
  2. Select a tutor or tutoring service from the list of state-approved providers (see link below).
  3. Submit the application to your school’s principal.

How to choose a tutorial service

If you feel your child could benefit from tutoring in some or all of the offered subjects--mathematics, reading, English, and language arts--please take advantage of this free tutoring.

The Texas Education Agency has carefully reviewed applications from many non-profit and for-profit programs and companies that provide quality academic tutoring services. These service providers all have one goal in mind—to enable your child to attain his/her academic goals. Contact your child’s school for a list of tutoring providers or see the link below.

Questions to ask when interviewing possible tutors and tutoring services:

  • When and where will these services be provided?
  • Who will be my child’s tutor? What qualifies this person to work with my son or daughter?
  • How and when will I find out how my child is doing?

What to expect

Project Opportunity! is more than homework support. Approved providers are required to:

  • review your child's areas of instructional need
  • identify strategies that will provide opportunities for solid learning and assistance
  • establish goals with you and your child
  • maintain a timetable for progress
  • monitor and assess your child's progress
  • report back to you

Tutors and tutoring providers also will protect the privacy of any student receiving services and provide tutoring that is consistent with health, safety, and civil-rights laws. State-approved tutors provide tutoring that is secular, neutral, and non-ideological. All providers are committed to working with you and your child.

Parents/guardians make the difference.

Enrolling your child in tutoring is simple!
  • Select your child's tutor with care
