Magnet School Information

Selection Process

The number of seats available for each magnet program will be identified before the application process begins.

Seats will be awarded based on the following formula:

30 percent of the seats awarded districtwide by rank-ordering of applicants based on overall criteria score
70 percent of the seats awarded within elementary learning community's geographic areas (adjusted proportionally for student population) by rank-ordering of applicants based on overall criteria score

Qualified applicants who are not selected due to limited space will be placed on a rank-ordered waiting list. Applications will remain active until the beginning of the second six weeks of the fall semester and student vacancies will be filled until that time.

Sibling Preference

Qualified applicants applying to a vanguard or Montessori program (elementary magnet program) who have a sibling (brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister, stepbrother or stepsister, living in the same household) attending the same vanguard and/or Montessori program and who will continue to attend that school will be placed in the vanguard/Montessori program on a space available basis before other qualified applicants. Siblings must apply to the magnet program and meet the criteria to be selected. Siblings or twins applying together for the first time will not receive sibling preferential treatment.
