Parental Public School Choice

A major component of Dallas Achieves! is providing parents with a choice when it comes to selecting their child’s secondary school.

The career pathways offered at seven schools to eighth-graders who will enter the ninth grade in the 2009-2010 school year are the first step toward implementing school choice districtwide.

The programs are open to all current eighth-graders and have no academic requirements. If a student is accepted into one of the programs, that school will become the student’s new home school. Because of a limited number of spaces at each school, acceptance will be determined through a lottery. The district will not provide transportation for students who are accepted.

For more information on the participating schools and the career pathways offered, see the Parental Public School Choice Information Guide, which is also available in Spanish.

Applications to the high schools included in the parental public school choice program are available here and at school counselors’ offices.
