Testing

In addition to regular test and quizzes within class, students in the Dallas ISD are tested several times a year through benchmark exams to measure how well they are learning the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully complete the course work for each subject and grade. Once a year in the spring, students take the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, a statewide exam that provides the information necessary to ensure that each school and the district are meeting state and federal education goals.

TAKS Help

“Unlocking TAKS” (.pdf)

To prepare all students to pass the TAKS and stay on track to success, the Dallas ISD offers several programs to help students and their parents.

  • Instruction for students who have not passed the TAKS is provided during the summer and the regular school year.
  • Training for parents is provided throughout the year.
    • Many schools offer once or twice a semester bilingual workshops for parents of early childhood students. The workshops enable the parents to help their child be prepared for tests and meet the state’s higher standards that begin in the early grades.
    • Workshops on how to help their child during the summer are provided for parents of students attending summer school.
    • Various workshops, seminars, and academies teach parents how to help their prekindergarten through third-grade children do better in school and on the TAKS.

For information about workshops, seminars, and academies, call (972) 925-8031.

DSTV, the district’s cable television operation, airs several distance-learning programs for students.
