Textbooks

State textbooks are issued free to students and remain the property of the state. If a student does not receive a textbook, the student should first ask the teacher for a textbook. If he or she does not receive the textbook, contact the principal.

Selection Process

The textbook selection process begins annually in November, when classroom teachers at each school meet to review state-approved textbooks up for adoption for the following year. These teachers make recommendations to subject-area committees in each of the district’s geographical areas.

The subject-area committees then make recommendations to the districtwide Central Textbook Committee, which also receives community input on the textbooks. Parents can review sample copies of the textbooks during November and December.

In February, the Board of Trustees votes on the recommendations of the Central Textbook Committee to determine which books will be used by the Dallas ISD the following year.
