Student Transfers


Students in kindergarten through high school in the Dallas Independent School District may apply for transfers from their assigned school to a school that better matches their interests or meets their needs—as long as they qualify and space is available. (See board policy FDB atwww.tasb.org/policy/pol/private/057905/).

Student transfer requests will only be processed during the application windows for the 2009–2010 school year.

Transfer Type Reason for Transfer Process Timeline

Curriculum Transfer Program

To attend the nearest Dallas ISD school with available space that offers a course or program the assigned school does not
  1. Fill out the Curriculum or Hardship Transfer Application.
  2. Obtain the receiving school principal’s approval/denial and signature.
  3. Obtain the sending school principal’s approval/denial and signature.
  4. Submit by mail, fax, or hand deliver the transfer to the Student Transfer Office for final approval/denial and signature.
  5. If approved by the Student Transfer Office, enroll in the receiving school.

 

Application Window:
March 23 – June 3, 2009

Transfer Enrollment Date:
August 24, 2009

 

 

Hardship Transfer Program

To attend another Dallas ISD school with available space if personal or family circumstances prevent a student from attending the assigned school

School Choice/ Public Education Grant (PEG) Transfer Program

List of PEG Schools

To attend a higher-performing school with available space if the assigned school is a PEG school, one that has been academically unacceptable in 2005, 06, or 07 or less than 50% of the students have passed any section of the TAKS in two of those years Students may transfer only to non-PEG schools with space.

Note: Transportation is not provided by the district for Curriculum, Hardship, or PEG Transfers and is the responsibility of the parent or guardian.

School Choice/ No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Transfer Program To attend another Dallas ISD school with available space if the assigned school has not made adequate yearly progress (AYP) for two or more consecutive years
  1. NCLB School Choice Parent Notification letters and applications are mailed to parents if their child’s school has not made adequate yearly progress for two or more consecutive years.
  2. Complete the NCLB application and submit it by mail, fax or hand deliver to the Student Transfer Office no later than the date specified on the application.
  3. Students will be assigned to schools with priority given to low achieving, low-income students.
  4. Notifications of assignments are mailed to the address listed on the applications.

Application Window:
Within 30 days from parent notification letter date, as defined by Texas Education Agency.

Transfer Enrollment Date:
As specified in notification of assignment letter.

Note: Transportation is provided by the district for all NCLB School Choice Transfers.

Out-of-District Transfers

To attend a school within the Dallas ISD if the student lives outside the district.

This includes employee’s children and PEG transfers who live outside the district.

  1. Fill out the Out-of-District Transfer Form. (If new magnet student, do not complete the form until student has gone through the entire Magnet Selection Process and been accepted into the magnet.)
  2. Obtain the receiving school principal’s approval/denial and signature.
  3. Submit by mail, fax, or hand deliver the transfer to the Student Transfer Office for final approval/denial and signature.
  4. If approved by the Student Transfer Office, enroll in the receiving school.

Transfer Enrollment Date:
August 24, 2009
