Student Transfers


Students in kindergarten through high school in the Dallas Independent School District may apply for transfers from their assigned school to a school that better matches their interests or meets their needs — *as long as they qualify and space is available. Contact the Student Transfer Office at (972) 925-3270 for further information.

Parents are invited to talk to the school counselor or principal about these programs or to contact:

Transfer Program Reason for Transfer Process Timeline

Curriculum Transfer Program

Curriculum Transfer Form

To attend the nearest Dallas ISD school with available space that offers a course or program the
assigned school does not
  1. Fill out a Curriculum Transfer Form.
  2. Obtain the receiving school principal’s signature and approval or denial.
  3. Obtain the sending school principal’s signature and approval or denial.
  4. Obtain the Student Transfer Manager signature and ratification or denial.
  5. If approved, enroll in the new school on August 25. (No transportation)

3/3 – 6/3/08

Throughout the year if new to Dallas ISD

Hardship Transfer Program

Hardship Transfer Form

To attend another Dallas ISD school with available space if personal or family circumstances prevent a
student from attending the assigned school

  1. Fill out a Hardship Transfer Form.
  2. Obtain the receiving school principal’s signature and approval or denial.
  3. Obtain the sending school principal’s signature and approval or denial.
  4. If approved, enroll in the new school. (No transportation)

School Choice/ Public Education Grant (PEG) Transfer Program

List of PEG Schools

To attend a higher-performing school with available space if the assigned school is a PEG school, one that has been academically unacceptable in 2005, 06, or 07 or less than 50% of the students have passed any section of the TAKS in two of those years Students may transfer only to non-PEG schools with space.

Within Dallas ISD:

  1. Fill out a Hardship Transfer Form.
  2. Obtain the receiving school principal’s signature and approval or denial.
  3. Obtain the sending school principal’s signature and approval or denial.
  4. Obtain the Student Transfer Manager signature and ratification or denial.
  5. Enroll in the new school.

Outside of Dallas ISD:

  1. Contact the other school district to see if they accept PEG transfers.

3/3 – 6/3/08

Throughout the year if new to Dallas ISD

School Choice/ No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Transfer Program To attend another Dallas ISD school with available space if the assigned school has not made adequate yearly progress (AYP) for two or more consecutive years
  1. Enroll in assigned school.
  2. Parent notification letter and transfer application will be mailed to you if your school has not made adequate yearly progress.
  3. Complete NCLB application and submit it to the Student Transfer Office.
  4. Students will be assigned schools, priority given to low achieving, low-income students. Notification of assignment will be by mail or phone.
  5. Transfers will take place the first day of the second six weeks or the second
    semester. Transportation is provided or paid for by Dallas ISD.

Out-of-District Transfers

Out-of-District Transfer Form

To attend a school within Dallas ISD if you live outside the district

This includes employees’ children and PEG transfers who live outside the district.

  1. Fill out the Out-of-District Transfer Form. (If new magnet student, do this only after you have gone through Magnet Selection Process and have been approved.)
  2. Obtain the receiving school principal’s signature and approval or denial.
  3. Obtain the Student Transfer Manager’s signature and ratification or denial. Enroll in the Dallas ISD school.
