Deputy Chief of Police Gary Hodges, a 1966 Samuell High School graduate, supervises patrol, communications/alarm monitoring and investigations within the department.
A Vietnam veteran who served on the USS Tripoli, Chief Hodges holds a bachelor’s of business administration from Baylor University, and a master of science from Abilene Christian University at Dallas.
He worked for the Dallas Police Department from 1972 until 1985, where he worked in patrol, as an academy class supervisor, and Internal Affairs investigator. He worked in private enterprise for 15 years before joining the Dallas ISD Police Department in 2000.
Chief Hodges is an elected board member of the Dallas chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, a member of the Texas Association of School District Police, and the Greater Dallas Crime Commission. In Dallas ISD, he also serves as a member of the Bond Integrity Committee for the $1.37 billion bond program and a member of the Legal Review Board.
