BUTTERFLIES - 1st Grade

The students learned to identify symmetry in their surroundings. They were responsible for the measuring, cutting, and folding of their butterflies. They used oil pastels to create symmetrical designs on the wings.


WALK IN SOMEONE ELSE'S SHOES - K - 4th Grade


To create a tactile experience to understand the abstract concept of empathy, the students traded shoes with their classmates and pondered how they felt in the other people's shoes.
They used colors that conveyed how they felt in their classmates' shoes.
They created treads by using the seven elements of design, various combinations of the seven elements and different shapes.


TORN PAPER MOSAICS - 3rd Grade

The objective was to create an original composition using a variety of materials:

  • They had to draw the outlines of 2 or 3 large, simple objects.
  • One of their objects had to go off the page.
  • They needed to use up as much negative space as possible without having the objects touch each other. "
  • They had to mosaic using "penny-sized" pieces that were placed close but not touching.
