Annelius
Marie Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on June
12, 1929. In 1933, Anne's father moved to Amsterdam.
With the 1940 invasion by the Nazis, deportations
and anti-Jewish measures increased, and on July 6,
1942, the family moved into the "Secret Annex,"
a hidden, four-room attic space where they remained
in hiding until August 3, 1944.
During that time, Anne kept a diary containing the
fears, hopes and daily existence of the family. Her
final entry was August 1, 1944, two days prior to
their discovery by Nazi troops. Anne and her sister
Margot died at Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp in
March, just two months before the liberation of the
camp by Allied troops. At the time of her death, Anne
was fifteen years old.
The Diary of Anne Frank has been read by millions
worldwide and has been printed in 52 languages. It
is considered the classic text for children learning
about the Holocaust, the results of totalitarianism,
scapegoating, discrimination, prejudice, and the essential
need for freedoms which are protected by the United
States and Texas Constitutions, including freedom
of religion, freedom of speech and freedom of the
press.
In her diary Anne wrote:
