Field Day

Field Day is a regular Spring event sponsored by the Dad's Club, where every student has the opportunity to compete in fun physical activities like sack race, football kick, 50 meter race, long jump, shoe kick and limbo. Ribbons are provided for all students. Participation and having fun are emphasized over competition. Typically on a Friday, the students are released from classes to participate with all activities happening on the playground. The Dad's Club is a significant part of this event by providing drinks and snacks for all students as well as organizing the volunteers for the day of fun!

Special Events

Special Events is a Stonewall Jackson tradition that began in 1976. Each year a culture or a country is studied in-depth. This study is a cooperative effort that involves teachers, students, parents and community volunteers. The halls of the school are magically transformed into the country being studied. The unique traditions are integrated into the curriculum through decorations, storytelling, costumes, food, art and guest speakers. The final day of the week long study includes a lunch of traditional food from the country and a market place where students sell items from the culture they are studying.

Special Events is truly a labor of love and through our efforts, our students learn to respect and appreciate the richness of the many cultures and customs from the countries around the world.

Fall Carnival

The Fall Carnival is a traditional PTA sponsored event. It is typically on a Saturday around the end of October. Parents and other volunteers spend numerous hours setting up booths and game areas. The black top is transformed into a Carnival atmosphere where young goblins, fairies and other costumed fantasies can intermingle. There are games and activities for all elementary age children.

Award Assemblies

Every May, as the year comes to a close, sixth grade hosts their own awards assembly. Many different awards are given to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of all students. The fifth grade students host a reception honoring the sixth grade students following their awards assembly.

Silent Auction

The Silent Auction is a biannual PTA sponsored event. In addition to outside solicitations like trips and sporting events, the students and teachers create original, handmade items that parents are all too eager to purchase. The Silent Auction is a major fund raiser for the PTA and the proceeds fund special school projects and programs at Stonewall Jackson.

Parent - Teacher Conferences

Teachers conduct formal parent conferences twice a year. Conferences usually occur at the end of the first six weeks in the fall and the end of the third six weeks in the spring. If additional parent conferences are needed, they can be scheduled anytime of the year by making an appointment with the teacher.
