Who is Stonewall Jackson?

Stonewall Jackson's real name was Thomas Jonathan Jackson. He was born in Clarksburg, Virginia on January 21, 1824. Jackson was once a teacher at the Military Institute before becoming a general for the Confederate Army. He earned his nickname during the Civil War. During the Battle of Bull Run, General Bernard E. Bee said, "There's Jackson standing still like a stone wall." From then on he was known as "Stonewall Jackson". He died May 10, 1863. Throughout the United States there are many elementary, middle, and high schools named after this famous general.
