The Dallas Independent School District has an excellent listing of approved, educational websites.  The content of the different sites is appropriate for children from kindergarten through high school.

ABC Toon Center is a children's theme park for family fun.  Kids can join Hoot and Kat for activities, cartoons, games, movies, stories, puzzles, and music!

Crayola Creativity Central offers kids arts and crafts ideas for rainy day fun.  We also have coloring books and pages, arts and craft projects, games, school supplies, art education and lesson plans for use in both school and home activities.

Learn about Theodor Seuss Geisal, the author of infamous books for the very young.  This official Random House site dedicated to Dr. Seuss, is one of the finest "tribute" sites on the internet today.  Granted, they are trying to sell his books, but this is still a great site.

Funschool is an educational and "just for fun" site which offers interactive games and activities for pre-schoolers, young children, and elementary children.

PBS Kids Online is home to favorite PBS characters with thousands of pages of learning and fun to explore.  Play over 100 games, hear your favorite theme songs, read interactive stories, or discover how PBS Kids programs are made in Behind the Scenes.

 

Starfall is an excellent website for those children who are about to begin learning to read.  Beginner lessons focus on letter names, sounds, and blending.  More advanced lessons are especially effective for students in first through fourth grade because they incorporate different genres of literature.  Students at these levels can learn about poetry and prose while improving their reading fluency and comprehension.

Yahooligan's homework page includes "ask an expert" as well as resources in history, language arts, science, social studies, geography, reference, and math.

The publishers of "Information Please" have assembled a great website for kids, parents, and teachers with a quick-search function that could serve as a primary research tool for class projects.  Visit the main page or go straight to the Homework Center.

An educational site for kids of all ages.  Games, quizzes, homework help and more.  Topics for games include Numbers, Words, Universe, Culture, or Extras.

A kid and his dad built a useful list of homework helping websites.  A winner of 90+ awards, this site deserves them.  We'd give it a "10" on our list of 10 great homework sites.  B.J. has "merged" with the Discovery Channel.  You'll find his homework links and a biography of the young entrepreneur at Discovery.com.

Animated movies, comic strips, activity pages, and 24 hour homework assistance via email for kids.  Subjects include health, math, science, English, technology, and social studies.  A great variety of educational subjects are presented as short entertaining Flash movies.

Discover Channel School has tools to help you study, games to challenge your mind, and tons of great clip art to use.  In addition, there are nearly a dozen learning adventures that let you explore everything from Ancient Egypt to the Space Station.

Ask Jeeves for Kids is a fast, easy, and kid-friendly way for kids to find answers to their questions online.  Designed to be a fun destination site focused on learning and "edutainment," Ask Jeeves for Kids uses natural-language technology that allows kids to ask questions, such as "Why is the sky blue?" or "What's it like to live in space?" in the same way that they would ask a parent, friend, or teacher.  The service combines human editorial judgment with filtering technology to enable kids to find both relevant and appropriate answers on the web.

This is the official Roald Dahl site with stories, quizzes, wonderful illustrations, and a bio on the man himself.  He is the author of James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Witches.  This site requires Macromedia Flash Player.
