Hill was named a 2004 21st Century School of Distinction Award
winner for our implementation of technology. 2004 was the first year of the program
with more than 1,200 schools appyling and 20 schools
being recognized. Walnut Hill was one of two schools to win the Technology
Implementation category.

National School of Character by the Character Education Partnership. We
were one of nine schools across the nation and the only

70,000 teachers nationwide. This Disney award recognizes teachers who use
innovative teaching practices that actively engage students in learning.
We are very proud that Walnut
Hill was named a National
Blue Ribbon School in 1998-99. This great honor signifies the quality of
education and teamwork between the school, the parents and the community that
makes Walnut Hill so special. In addition, Walnut Hill was selected as one of
only five schools in the nation to receive the 1998-99 Special Emphasis Award in Character
Education in recognition of our Character Counts program!
Welcome to our new Principal,
Mr. Brian Lusk. He is a strong leader who cares greatly for our students, staff
and parents. In his first year as Principal he has implemented many programs
and policies that will continue to make Walnut Hill a wonderful place of
learning. We are also very proud of our past Principal of 10 years, Mrs. Jo
Anne Hughes who was named DISD Elementary School Principal of the Year for 1998
to 1999. Mrs. Hughes was loved and has moved on to another position within the
DISD.
