History of L.G. Pinkston High School
Dr. Lee Gresham Pinkston was born in Forest, Mississippi. He attended Alcorn State University and went on to Meharry Medical College, a prominent Black medical school in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1911, he moved to Terrell, Texas and married Violoa Marie Shaw.

In 1927, Dr. Pinkston founded the Pinkston Clinic in Dallas, Texas. He was an eminent African-American doctor known for his strong civic leadership. He was also a financier and philanthropist. He received many awards from civic organizations for his generosity to the people of Dallas.

Our school was named after Dr. Pinkston because civic leaders recognized his accomplishments and hoped future graduates would continue his work. L.G. Pinkston High School opened on November 15, 1964 with an enrollment of 700 students. The first principal was Dr. Thomas Tolbert, who retired in 1970.

In 2000, Pinkston welcomed Mr. J. Leonard Wright. His strong leadership is guiding Pinkston High School through dynamic changes. We are proud of our rich history, but we are more enthused about our future.
