Piano
We are fortunate to have a very nice piano lab at Pinkston. Several students
take advantage of this and take class piano lessons. They are hard at
work learning the basics of playing the piano. Each student also has a
solo assigned to work on in his or her spare rehearsal time.
Theatre
The Theatre Department is hard at work on a production. So far, we have
learned theatre terms, techniques, and even read a few plays. We will
be producing "'Tis the Season" this December. It is a comedy
about a group of church members that stage a "live nativity"
outside in the freezing cold on Christmas Eve. They end up being arrested
and taken to jail where they realize the true meaning of Christmas. You
won't want to miss it! Dates will be announced soon!
Choir
Make plans now to see the L.G. Pinkston choir and six other DISD High
Schools on stage at the Dallas Convention Center Theatre. As tradition
holds, we will once again be participating in the Dallas Black Academy
of Arts & Letter's Christmas/Kwanzaa Program. The program will be
Saturday, December 14th at 8:00 PM at the Dallas Convention Center Theatre
in downtown Dallas. Tickets can be purchased in advance through the choir
department at Pinkston for $10 each. (The DBAAL set the cost.) All schools
will split the profit equally from ticket sales. So, this is a chance
for us to fundraise a little extra money for the spring! Please buy a
ticket or two and let a friend who may be interested know!
There will be three rehearsals for the students involved. We will take
a bus for the rehearsals and concert. The rehearsal dates are Monday,
November 18th, Monday, December 2nd, and Monday, December 9th from 6:00
PM to 9:00 PM. Make plans to be there!
Mr. Jason Hewitt
Mr. Jason Hewitt joined the Pinkston family this year. He's in his seventh
year in education and teaches choir, theatre and piano. In his former
position as a middle school choir director, he was actively involved in
musical theatre productions, directing "Guys and Dolls" and
"A Tribute to Charlie Brown."
He earned a Bachelors of Art in Music Education from Harding University
in Searcy, Arkansas, and a Masters in Administration from University of
North Texas. Mr. Hewitt is certified to teach choir, piano, theatre, reading
and English.
His wife Michele is a 4th grade teacher at Carrollton Christian Academy,
and they have a twenty-month old daughter named Shelby. She already knows
music, and by her smile "The Rainbow Connection" and the theme
to "Charlie Brown" are among her favorites!
