"Camp Med"

Seven TJHS students who are members of the pre-med club, Caduceus, attended a medical health careers camp this summer. The two-week program sponsored by the D-FW Area Heath Education Center introduced students to the educational and employment opportunities available to them in the metroplex. Texas Health Resources sponsored all seven students for the camp.

Students who attended for 1 week were David Perez (11th) and Oyuky Romero (11th). Students who attended 2 weeks were Juan Meraz (11th), Mario Salcedo (10th), Laura Reyes (12th), and Rosemary Vasquez (11th). Mrs. Rain, science teacher at TJ, attended the camp with the students.

The group visited medical programs at Brookhaven College, TCU, TWU-Dallas, Baylor Dental School and U.T. Southwestern Medical School. Clinics and hospitals visited were Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, Parkland Hospital, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, DeHaro Clinic, and Baylor All Saints in Fr. Worth.

Class time involved learning medical vocabulary and scientific experiments. All of the students expressed an interest in attending camp again next year.
