Thomas Jefferson High School offers many ways for parents to
become involved in the education of their children including:
- Parent Seminars
- Site-Based Decision Making
- PTA
- Smaller Learning Community Parent Meetings
- Orientation for grades 9 - 11
Thomas Jefferson Counselor, Dr. Leon Kilpatrick offers these
suggestions for helping your child to be successful in school:
Parent takes the lead |
>Talk
to your childListen for clues
> With your child, identify problem areas |
Plan a schedule |
>With your child's input, plan a daily
schedule with routine activities.
> Adjust the schedule as needed during the first 2-3
weeks.
> Incude 10 minutes for you to listen to your child about
what he learned in class daily.
> Include weekends but with flexibility. |
Class preparation |
>Require your child to be an active
participant in all classes.
> Have your child include how, what and when he participated
in his daily ten minute verbal report.
> Give positive feedback and be
encouraging. |
Communication |
>Be accessible to teachers and school
staff.
>Provide a dependable phone number.
>Participate in open house each
semester
>Continue to talk with your child
about school and his experiences daily. |

improve concentration
>Empower your child with a positive
attitude toward learning.
>Reward your child for his/her achievements.
>Know where to seek help such as
tutoring, counseling services, and PTA. |
