TAG - Talented and Gifted
Program
It is important to note that many students
come to Longfellow already qualified for the
TAG program. Incoming 7th graders can indicate
on an elective card their interest in the TAG
program as an elective. If accepted in TAG,
the class will be a year long elective and can
not be dropped.
Qualifying for Longfellow's TAG program:
Pre-AP or Pre-Honors:
Algebra I Eligibility - 8th grade
The following criteria shall be considered
in determining the student's eligibility for placement
in Pre-AP Algebra I, which will be offered only in
grade 8:
- A fall semester average of 80 or above in the student's
Math class.
- A passing score on the Orleans Hanna Exam.
- 80% or higher on last year's ITBS.
- 85% on last year'sTAKS.
If these criteria have not been met, a student's
parent may request that the student take the course
and shall sign an agreement to assist in monitoring
and supporting the progress of the student in the
course.
Middle School students may be admitted to Pre-AP
Algebra I during the beginning of the academic year
only. The student must complete both the fall semester
and spring semester in order to receive high school
credit.
Pre-AP or Pre-Honors:
Language Arts - 7th and 8th grades
The following criteria shall be considered in determining
the student's eligibility for placement in Pre-AP Language
Arts:
- 80% or higher on Reading ITBS.
Pre-AP or Pre-Honors:
Math - 7th grade
- 80% or higher on Math ITBS
Pre-AP or Pre-Honors:
Science - 8th grade
- 80% or higher on Math ITBS
