The National Junior Honor Society is a national organization of students joined together by service, character, and citizenship. A cumulative grade average of 92 must be earned in all a student's classes during the 7th grade school year to qualify for membership.

Other considerations for membership in NJHS are leadership, good character, and citizenship. As a NJHS member a student will have advantages over other students when the time comes to apply to the magnet high school of their choice.

NJHS has had an active chapter at Longfellow for the last 9 years. A special banquet honoring National Junior Honor Society students is held every year in the Spring.
