James W. Fannin came to Texas in 1834 and participated in the Battle of Gonzales on Oct. 2, 1835. Later that month, he and James Bowie led the Texas forces in the battle of Concepcion.
In January 1836, Fannin was appointed by the provisional government. Fannin surrendered at the Battle of Coleto after being surrounded by Mexican forces, and he and his men were taken to Goliad. On orders from Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, Fannin was executed along with almost all of his men on March 27, 1836. |
