Special programs:
We host a Fall and Spring Festival where our community, parents, and students participate in games and activities provided by our faculty and staff. We also plan fun-filled activities to celebrate careers in our community, drug awareness, and literacy. Students are recognized each six weeks for their academic achievement and demonstration of citizenship.

After-school programs:
Our school is pleased to offer 21st Century After-School Programs, which include Drama Club, Soccer, American Girls Club, Science Club and Computer Club, and much more.

Parent Involvement

Monthly Parent Teacher Association meetings feature discussions about school and community issues and are highlighted by student performances by various grade levels. Annual Math and Science Nights, full of games and activities, provide parents the opportunity to learn ways to reinforce their children's learning at home. Our school, in conjunction with Even Start, also offers weekly English as a Second Language classes as well as additional parenting classes. Twice a year, we hold Community Potluck dinners at which we develop fellowship among our parents, staff, and community.

Major Awards and Honors

We are proud to announce that our school had several finalists in the Area 3 and District Math Olympiad competitions in the past two years. Several of our students have had their original artwork displayed at public events including the national Lights On Afterschool cross-country tour and the Texas Rodeo and Stampede.

If it were not for Sam Houston, Texas would be a Mexican state instead of the 28th state of the United States. Houston was instrumental in Texas gaining its independence from Mexico. He served as a general during the war with Mexico and led his soldiers in a battle against the Mexican army near the San Jacinto River in what today is Houston. The city was later named after him.

In 1836, Sam Houston was elected the first President of the Republic of Texas. He also was elected Senator from Texas to the United States Congress in 1845. Houston was elected Governor of Texas in 1859. He died in Huntsville, TX in July 1863.
