Esperanza Medrano was born in Mabank, TX in 1921. At 18, she married Francisco "Pancho" Medrano, a national civil rights leader. Esperanza opened a store in the school's neighborhood, where she ran a "clothes pantry" to help children in need. Her philosophy was that we all need to contribute to our communities to make sure the life cycle continues from generation to generation. Esperanza (Spanish for hope) Medrano had hope for the children of our community, so the school was named Esperanza "Hope" Medrano. Medrano died November 5, 1992.
