Barbara M. Manns began her career in the Dallas Independent School District in 1978 as a Language Arts/Reading teacher at Oliver Wendell Holmes Middle School. She moved to Sequoyah Learning Center in 1986 and taught language arts and social studies. In 1987, Barbara taught language arts at Atwell Middle School. From 1988 – 1990 she was the dean of instruction at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. In 1990 Ms. Manns was named principal of and opened the Comprehensive Evening High School, which was later renamed Barbara M. Manns High School. She remained principal of Comprehensive Evening High School until her death in 1994. Barbara M. Manns dedicated her life, talents, and skills to making a difference in the lives of students in the Dallas Independent School District.
