Nathan Adams was born in 1869 in Tennessee. For 66 years, he was president and chairman of the First National Bank of Dallas, which he founded. He also helped to attract the Federal Reserve Bank to Dallas in 1914.

He was a family man and gave of his time for public service. Adams was asked by President Herbert Hoover to organize the Federal Home Loan Bank. He also served as chairman of the Texas Centennial Exposition and the Pan American Exposition in the 1930s. His favorite charity was the Scottish Rite Hospital, where he was cared for by the staff until his death in 1966 at the age of 96.
