DeGolyer Elementary School is named after the late Everette L. DeGolyer (1886 - 1956) for his outstanding contributions to science, education and the community. DeGolyer founded the field of applied petroleum geophysics.

DeGolyer began his career in the oil business and later invested part of his profits from oil into such companies as Geophysical Services Incorporated. GSI revolutionized the oil business developing seismographic techniques for oil detection. GSI later became Texas Instruments. DeGolyer also founded Core Laboratories and DeGolyer and MacNaghton, the leading petroleum consulting firm in the world today.
